Daisy Bell|
『Daisy Bell (A Bicycle Built for Two)』は、Harry Dacreが1892年に発表したコミックソングです。
Planted one day by a glancing dart,
Planted by Daisy Bell!
Whether she loves me or loves me not,
Sometimes it’s hard to tell;
Yet I am longing to share the lot
Of beautiful Daisy Bell!
a flower within my heart / Planted ... by a glancing dart
Whether she loves me or loves me not 「彼女が僕を愛しているのか、いないのか」。 女性名・花名である Daisy と、“loves me, loves me not” と唱える花占いも重なる。
share the lot lot
“Ped’ling” away down the road of life,
I and my Daisy Bell!
When the road’s dark we can both despise
P’licemen and “lamps” as well;
There are “bright lights” in the dazzling eyes
Of beautiful Daisy Bell!
go “tandem” as man and wife
“Ped’ling” away down the road of life pedaling
You’ll be the bell(e) which I’ll ring, you know!
Sweet little Daisy Bell!
You’ll take the “lead” in each “trip” we take,
Then, if I don’t do well,
I will permit you to use the brake,
My beautiful Daisy Bell!
in “wheel” or woe 定型句 in weal or woe(順境でも逆境でも)の weal を、自転車の wheel に置き換えた掛詞。
the bell(e) which I’ll ring bell(鈴)、belle(美しい女性)、姓の Bell が重なる掛詞。
take the “lead” in each “trip” / use the brake lead
Give me your answer, do!
I’m half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
I can’t afford a carriage,
But you’ll look sweet
On the seat
Of a bicycle built for two!
I’m half crazy / All for the love of you
a stylish marriage / carriage / a bicycle built for two
第2節の “go tandem as man and wife” は、 二人乗り自転車と夫婦生活を同時に指します。
